Why choose serological testing?

Q: Why consider serological allergy testing?

A: Serological allergy testing can provide information that may then allow you to offer the only management solution that can modify the natural course of a pre-existing hypersensitivity and result in the establishment of long-term clinical tolerance (1,2).

Q: Why choose serological testing over intradermal testing (IDT)?

A: The top 5 reasons to choose serological testing over IDT are:

1. It requires minimal preparation and is less invasive for the patient.

2. It is more time-efficient, with a quick and easy sample submission process.

3. It can be carried out while skin lesions are present.

4. It provides flexibility of sampling – samples can be taken when the patient is most symptomatic / off certain medication, stored free of charge and then tested when required.

5. There is no difference in response rate to immunotherapy when compared to using intradermal testing (3,4).
