Canine Allergy Tests

Serological tests you can trust

Our ELISA based serology can detect specific IgE against 55 different allergens, with the addition of Staphylococcus as a secondary infection test. Details of these allergens can be found in our allergen list below.

Our canine allergy tests:

  • Provide clear, easily interpreted results in a visual format that can be shared with owners

  • Require withdrawal from fewer medications prior to testing and are less invasive and more time efficient compared to intradermal testing

  • Boast a quick standard turnaround times of 2-4 days

  • Include highly specific assays, using monoclonal antibodies for IgE detection

  • Incorporate a unique CCD blocker included within the environmental serological assays to prevent and remove N-linked glycan IgE binding

  • Have been supported by numerous peer-reviewed publications

  • Are evidence-based tests with excellent reproducibility

Avacta Allergy + Complete Environmental & Food

Environmental Test

By measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, the Avacta Allergy+™ environmental test can help to identify environmental allergens for both allergen avoidance purposes and to select for inclusion in allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT).

Why test?

Serological testing enables you to provide additional management and therapeutic options (such as ASIT) for allergy cases. Only by identifying relevant allergens are you able to offer all long-term solutions as part of an effective management programme for this life-long condition.

Allergens:

  • Grasses
  • Weeds
  • Trees and shrubs
  • Mites and fleas
  • Dander
  • Moulds

Malassezia IgE is also now included in all of our canine environmental panels.

Food Test

The only way to diagnose a food allergy is by conducting a food trial. Using the Avacta Allergy+™ food test can help identify which foods are the most appropriate to use for the food trial.

This test measures allergen-specific IgG and IgE antibodies against food allergens and is designed to assist in the selection of novel foods, or commercial hydrolysed diets, for an elimination diet trial.

Why test?

  • Simple results scores in a clear visual format help owner understanding
  • Aids in the selection of foods suitable for an elimination diet
  • Owner engagement promotes stricter compliance

Allergens:

  • Mammalian, avian and fish proteins
  • Carbohydrates
  • Vegetables

Avacta Allergy + Screens

Allergy Screening

Avacta Allergy+™ Screens provide a cost-effective solution if you suspect allergic disease. Using the same ELISA based technology as our allergy tests, the results will show you either a single positive or a negative result to each mixed allergen panel. You can then investigate further if desired, by expanding any positive allergen panel result to gain individual allergen results.

This provides an economic method for allergen identification and, following expansion of positive panel results, is an excellent precursor to allergen-specific immunotherapy treatment.

Avacta Allergy + Secondary Infection

Staphylococcus IgE

Serological IgE testing can help to identify dogs for which Staphylococcus is generating a hypersensitivity response; in these cases, the organism may effectively be acting as an allergen.

In such cases case you will often see a clinical response disproportionate to the number of organisms found on the dog’s skin.
